That have nothing to do with Matt Murdock. I can watch, with huge amounts of interest, scenes just involving their lives. The supporting cast on this show is incredible. I'd never do that with a character scene. After I'd seen Daredevil and Elektra battle ninjas more than a half dozen times already. Honestly - and I didn't do this - but there are a few moments when I could have fast-forwarded through a fight scene or two. Instead, it has amazing action that you'll eventually come to appreciate second to the dialogue. Because Daredevil could easily be a show that rests on its action scenes while having decent characters. Mostly though, getting back to the "favorite thing" I wanted to tell you about, it's the characters. Looking back, there are about four or five fight moments that really stood out to me. Though, to be fair, after binging several episodes in a row, the fight scenes can all start to blur together if there's not something readily different about them. Which is still very much in play, topping many of the Season 1 battles on occasion. You know, aside from the amazing fight choreography. Which brings me to one of my favorite things about Marvel's Daredevil. They got to be characters, and well-rounded ones at that. Because, like Fisk, Punisher and Elektra aren't just foils. And both excellently portrayed on screen by talented actors ready to take these characters on their own emotional arcs and journeys. Both out to test him in very different ways. One killer connected to Matt's life as a vigilante and the other connected to his life as a relatively normal blind lawyer. Which was the big corner he himself had turned back in Season 1 when he held lengthy internal debates about whether or not to kill.Īnd so in comes Jon Bernthal's Punisher. Gone is the single "big bad" (no, there'd be no new, compelling mega-baddie like Fisk) and in its place are two fantastic anti-heroes designed to push Matt Murdock to his limits with regards to his respect for human life. So now we can look at Season 2 with a different set of eyes and explore where it took our characters.

And Jessica Jones even went a bit further by exploring the topics of abuse and rape in a stunningly stark and frightening manner. With Season 1, and now Jessica Jones, in the books, we know the boundaries that are being pushed. So I don't need to ruminate on that "darkness" anymore.

And also how 13 episodes of a TV show allowed for much deeper, complicated villains than the blockbuster movies could ever accommodate as Wilson Fisk had been such a spectacular, standout character. Back when I reviewed Daredevil's first season, I devoted a lot of time to writing about the darker tone and how the new Netflix model of Marvel properties opened up new avenues for superheroes - ones connected to the MCU - to explore more mature themes, relationships, and violence. For those looking for my thoughts on specific episodes or moments, I've posted all my individual episode reviews above, which go into more detail.
